Entering Mea Shearim, and it feels like we are in a movie: different reality, people are mostly dressed in black and time seems to be standing still. Like the street, the culinary scene is different too: there are no fancy restaurants, no colorful and noisy stores like in the neighboring Mahane Yehuda market.
Yiddish is the predominant language, people might look at you with suspicion, neglect is everywhere, but the food is wonderful! It has hardly changed for centuries, so we tasted the same flavors that many generations have grown upon in Eastern Europe (Ashkenaz), Brooklyn and here.
